Child Safety Standards

Buhata does not tolerate child sexual abuse or exploitation in any form. This page is our published standard on it. It is written plainly and kept public so that anybody, including the app stores we distribute through, can read what we do without asking us first.

What is prohibited

The following are banned on Buhata, in every space, on every plan, with no exception and no warning step:

• Child sexual abuse material, meaning any visual depiction of a minor in sexually explicit conduct.
• Sexualization of a minor in any image, drawing, rendering or text.
• Grooming, meaning building a relationship with a minor to enable sexual abuse or exploitation.
• Sextortion, meaning threatening to release intimate material to coerce a minor.
• Trafficking a minor, or advertising, soliciting or facilitating it.
• Sharing, requesting or linking to any of the above, including through an external service.

How we detect it

Every image and document uploaded to Buhata is checked before anybody can open it. A file nobody has checked is never shown to anybody. The check is a hash comparison against known illegal material, run by services that specialize in it rather than by us, and it happens on our side rather than on your device. What each service does, and what we send it, is set out in the Privacy Policy.

Hash matching finds material that is already known. It does not find everything, which is why the reporting route below matters and why we act on human reports as seriously as on a machine match.

What happens on a match or a report

1. The file is blocked immediately and is not served to anyone.
2. The account is suspended while we review, rather than after.
3. Confirmed material is reported to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, as United States law requires of us, and preserved for as long as that law requires.
4. The account is terminated. This is permanent and is not appealable back into the same account.

We do not warn an account before taking these steps, because a warning is an instruction to delete evidence.

Age

Buhata is for adults. You must be 18 or older to hold an account. If we learn that an account holder is under 18 we close the account and delete its contents.

Reporting to us

Anybody can report suspected child sexual abuse or exploitation on Buhata, whether or not they hold an account, by writing to [email protected]. That address is monitored and is also our point of contact for app store operators and child safety organizations.

Do not attach suspected material to a report. Send the account name, the space, and a description of where it appears, and we will retrieve it ourselves. Forwarding the material is itself unlawful in most places and does not help the report.

Reporting to authorities

If a child is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency number first. In the United States, reports can also be made to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children through the CyberTipline. Outside the United States, contact your national hotline or police service. Reporting to us does not replace reporting to them, and you do not need our permission to do either.
