Household Seat Policy

Last updated: August 24, 2026

This page covers Buhata household seats. It sits alongside the Terms and Conditions and the Subscription and Cancellation page, and where something isn't covered here, those apply.

What a seat is

A paid plan carries seats. Plus carries one besides the account holder, Premium carries three. A seat is a whole separate Buhata account with its own login, and it holds the plan for as long as the account holder keeps paying.

What a seat gets

What a seat does not get

Add-ons aren't included. Anything sold on top of a plan is bought per account and stays bound to the account that bought it. An account holder with an add-on doesn't pass it down a seat, and somebody in a seat who buys one keeps it if they later leave. This is the one part people get wrong, so it's worth saying plainly: the seat carries the plan, not the purchases.

A seat also doesn't carry billing. Only the account holder can change the plan, see the invoices, or cancel.

Nobody sees anybody else's books

A seat is a way to pay for somebody, not a way to watch them. The account holder can see that a seat is taken and by whom, and nothing else: not their entries, not their money, not where they are, not their lists. Sharing anything between accounts is a separate thing you both switch on, in the app, per list.

Joining

The account holder makes an invitation from Settings. It carries a code and a link, works once, and expires after fourteen days. You can't take a seat if you already have your own paid subscription: cancel that first. You can't hold two seats at once, anywhere.

Leaving and removal

You can leave a seat whenever you like, without asking anybody and without a code. Your account and everything in it stays yours; it goes back to the free plan.

An account holder removing somebody else has to confirm by email first. We send a code to the address on the account and the removal doesn't happen without it. That's deliberate: ending somebody's plan is a decision they weren't part of, and a borrowed phone shouldn't be able to do it in two taps.

When a seat ends, the plan stops for that account straight away and the free plan takes over. A seat that's just been vacated isn't immediately re-enterable by the same person, and a plan has a limit on how many different people can pass through its seats over time.

What happens when the plan stops

If the account holder cancels, downgrades, or the payment fails for good, every seat on that plan ends with it. Everybody keeps their account and their data on the free plan.

Fair use, and what abuse costs

Seats are for a household: the people you live with, your partner, your family. They aren't a discount channel and they aren't a license to resell.

Any of the following can cost you the seats, the plan, or the account, and in a bad case all three:

Where we see it, we may end the seats, cancel the plan without a refund for the remaining term, restrict the accounts involved, or close them. We'll tell you why. If you think we got it wrong, write to us and a person will look.

Children

Buhata is for adults, and a seat is an adult account. Children get profiles managed by you inside your own account, not seats and not logins.

Changes

If we change how seats work, we'll say so on this page and move the date at the top. A change that takes something away from a plan you're already paying for won't apply to that term.
