Buhata Money: connecting a bank, and what it can and cannot do

The add-on that fills your balances in from the bank, what it reads, what it can never do, and what happens if you stop paying for it.

Buhata Money is an add-on rather than a plan. It costs $7.99 a month, it sits on top of Plus or Premium, and it renews on its own schedule as a separate charge. If you never connect a bank you never need it: typing a transaction takes about four seconds and the whole product works without this.

What it actually does

Connect a bank and the balances, the expenses and the income stop being something you type. On top of that it opens four tools that only make sense once real transactions are arriving:

Each bank you connect also adds one Space to whatever your plan already gives you. Connecting the same bank twice adds nothing. A second bank adds a second Space.

Read-only, and there is no setting that changes it

Buhata can read your accounts. It cannot move money. There is no transfer, no payment and no card anywhere in it, and no switch that turns one on later.

Your bank username and password never reach us. You type them on the connection provider's own screen, not ours, and what comes back to Buhata is a token that reads the accounts you picked. That token is stored encrypted on our server and never goes to your phone or your browser.

Connecting also asks for a passkey first, so your device wants your fingerprint, your face or your PIN before the flow starts. The credential is bound to buhata.com and cannot be lifted onto a lookalike page.

Where it works

Banks in the United States and Canada. If your bank is somewhere else the add-on is not offered and cannot be bought, which is a limit of the connection rather than a judgement about where you live.

What it costs to try

Nothing, in the sense that there is nothing to try. The 14-day trial on Plus and Premium takes no card and covers those plans. This one is paid from the first day, because a bank connection costs us money from the first day.

Money stays out of shared Spaces

A connected bank belongs to the account that connected it. It is not shared with the other people on your plan, and each of them buys their own add-on if they want one. The server refuses to write a financial record into a shared Space at all, which is a thing the code cannot do rather than a policy we keep.

If you disconnect, or stop paying

Disconnect a bank and the transactions it brought in go with it.

Cancel the add-on and it runs to the end of the period you paid for, the same as a plan. After that the connections stop and the Spaces they added lock. Nothing is deleted: what you put in those Spaces stays where it is, and it comes back the moment the add-on does, or when you move it into a Space your plan already covers.

Deleting your Buhata account ends the connection at the provider too, rather than leaving it alive on their side.

Try it on the free plan.

No card, no countdown.
