Subscription and Cancellation

This page explains what you are agreeing to when you start a paid plan, when you are charged, and how to stop.

The free plan

The free plan is free and stays free. It does not expire, and nothing in it stops working because you did not upgrade.

The free trial

Every paid plan starts with a 14-day free trial, and it takes no payment details. No card, no wallet, nothing to enter and nothing to cancel. The trial runs on our own servers before any payment company is involved, which is why we can promise that plainly.

Because nothing was collected, nothing charges itself when the trial ends. The plan simply stops and the account drops to Free until you choose to start paying. There is no bill to be surprised by.

One trial per account

The fourteen days belong to the account, not to a plan. Trying Plus uses the same trial Premium would have used, and the other way round. You can switch tiers freely while it is running, and once it has been used there is not a second one on another plan or in another household.

What each plan is, and what it costs

Apple, Google and several US states all require the same thing before you buy, which is that the offer is stated plainly in one place rather than assembled from three pages. Here it is.

• Buhata Plus, an auto-renewing subscription. $5.99 per month, or $57.50 per year. Includes two accounts: the person who pays, and one more adult.
• Buhata Premium, an auto-renewing subscription. $14.99 per month, or $143.90 per year. Includes four accounts: the person who pays, and three more adults.
• Buhata Student, a promotional price on the monthly plans above: 50% off the monthly Plus and Premium plans for the first 12 months for currently enrolled U.S. students with a verified school-issued .edu email. Annual plans are not included. If the Buhata Money add-on is added while the student discount is active, it is 50% off as well and returns to full price when the student period ends. After the 12 months, the subscription continues at the regular monthly price. One student offer per account and per student email; monthly plans only; does not combine with other subscription discounts, and referral rewards earned during the student period are saved and applied after it ends. • Free costs nothing, has no advertising, and does not expire.

Every paid plan renews automatically at the end of each period at the price above, until it is canceled. Prices are in US dollars and exclude any tax that applies where you live.

Buhata Money, the add-on

Buhata Money is an auto-renewing add-on that costs $7.99 per month. It sits on top of a paid plan rather than replacing one, so it can only be bought alongside Plus or Premium and it renews on its own schedule as a separate charge on your card.

It does two things. It lets you connect a bank so balances, expenses and income fill themselves in, and each institution you connect adds one Space to whatever your plan already gives you. Connecting the same bank twice adds nothing; a second bank adds a second Space. Spaces added this way are yours for as long as the connection is, and they cannot be shared with other people.

• No fixed connection limit. There is no set number of banks you can connect. The add-on is priced for personal and household use, so it is covered by the fair use and permitted use terms: the connection is billed to us per bank login, and use far outside what a household plausibly needs, such as keeping books for clients, is what those terms exist for. We will contact you before anything is ever restricted.
• One person, one add-on. A bank login is personal, so the add-on belongs to the account that bought it and is not shared with the other people on your plan. Each of them buys their own if they want one.
• No free trial. The 14-day trial on Plus and Premium takes no card. Bank connections cost us money from the first day, so this one is paid from the start.
• United States and Canada only, for now. If your bank is somewhere else the add-on is not offered and cannot be bought. This is a limit of the connection, not a judgement about where you live.
• Read-only, always. Buhata can read your accounts and can never move money. There is no transfer, no payment and no card, and there is no setting that turns one on.

If you cancel Buhata Money, it runs to the end of the period you paid for, the same as a plan. After that the bank connections stop and the Spaces they added lock. Nothing is deleted. Anything you put in those Spaces stays exactly where it is, and it comes back the moment the add-on does or you move it into a Space your plan covers. If you cancel your plan while holding the add-on, the add-on ends with it, because it has nothing left to sit on top of.

The connection itself is made by Plaid, which is the company that holds your bank credentials. Your bank username and password go to Plaid and to your bank, and never to Buhata. What that means for your data is set out in the Privacy Policy.

If you subscribed inside the iPhone or iPad app

Payment is charged to your Apple ID at confirmation of purchase. The subscription renews automatically unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, and your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before that period ends. You can manage the subscription, see the renewal price and date, and turn off auto-renew in your Apple ID account settings after purchase. Cancelling inside Buhata does not cancel an App Store subscription; it has to be done there. Any unused part of a free period is forfeited when you buy a subscription.

If you subscribed inside the Android app

Payment is charged to your Google Play account and renews automatically unless canceled in Play’s subscription settings before the period ends. Cancelling inside Buhata does not cancel a Play subscription.

When you are charged

A paid plan only ever starts because you started it, after the trial and with a payment method you entered yourself. From then on, monthly plans renew on the same day each month and annual plans on the same date each year. Renewal is automatic until you cancel, which is what a subscription is; we say so here plainly rather than leaving you to discover it.

If a price ever changes, the new price applies to renewals after we have told you, never to a period you have already paid for.

How to cancel

Cancel wherever you started the plan, because that is where the billing lives:

• Bought inside Buhata: open Settings, then your plan, and cancel there. It takes effect immediately and you keep the plan until the period you paid for runs out.
• Bought through Google Play: cancel in the Play Store under Subscriptions. Play handles the billing, so we cannot cancel it for you.
• Bought through the App Store: cancel in your Apple account settings under Subscriptions, for the same reason.

Cancelling stops future charges and keeps the plan running until the end of the period you already paid for, rather than switching it off the moment you press the button. It does not delete your account or your data. If you want those gone as well, see Account Deletion.

What happens to your data when a plan ends

Nothing is deleted. Your account drops to the free plan, everything you wrote stays where it is, and features above the free plan stop being available until you start a plan again. If you come back, your data is still there.
