What It Means
A Grand Slam Offer is the term Alex Hormozi uses in $100M Offers (2021) for an offer put together so that a buyer has nothing to compare it with. Instead of competing on price against similar businesses, the seller changes what the customer gets: the result promised, the proof and guarantees behind it, how fast it arrives and how little work it asks of the buyer. It's his method for designing an offer, and the book presents it as his approach rather than a measured standard.
Try It: Check Your Offer Against the Five Levers
Tick each lever your offer already uses. These are the five levers acquisition.com lists for a Grand Slam Offer.
Start with the levers you skipped. Each one is a place to change the offer itself, before touching the price.
Most levers are in play. Ask a real customer which part made them say yes.
How People Say It at Work
- "Our offer looks like everyone else's. We need a Grand Slam Offer."
- "Add a guarantee and it's closer to a grand slam."
- "Nobody can compare us on price if the package is different."
The Breakdown
Formula
There's no number to calculate. Hormozi builds the offer from levers, and acquisition.com's Offers Workshop lists them as the outcome, proof and guarantees, speed, effort, and enhancers. His checklist for pricing names the same pull in four directions: make the dream outcome bigger, make success look more likely, shorten the time to success, and cut the effort and sacrifice it takes.
Worked example. A house cleaning business (made up) rewrites its offer lever by lever:
| Lever | Before | After |
|---|---|---|
| Outcome | "Standard clean, 3 hours" | "Walk into a guest-ready home every Friday" |
| Proof and guarantees | None | Before and after photos from past jobs, and a free return visit if a room is missed |
| Speed | First visit in two weeks | First visit within 48 hours |
| Effort | Customer supplies products | Cleaners bring everything |
| Enhancers | None | A seasonal fridge clean-out added |
The price may rise, but the buyer is now weighing a different package, so a cheaper "3-hour clean" down the street is harder to compare it with.
Benchmark. None. A Grand Slam Offer is a design method from one author's book, and there's no published rate or ratio that marks one. Judge it by what the business already measures. See more are the usual numbers to watch after changing an offer, with Harvard Business School Online giving at least 3 to 1 as the benchmark in most industries.
Where It Comes From
The term comes from Alex Hormozi's book $100M Offers: How to Make Offers So Good People Feel Stupid Saying No, published by his company Acquisition.com in July 2021. In it, Hormozi also sets out what he calls the value equation, built on the four drivers of value his pricing checklist names.
Good to Know
A guarantee is a promise you have to keep. Before adding one, write down exactly what it covers, for how long, and what the customer gets if it isn't met, and check it against any consumer protection rules where you sell. Acquisition.com also sells workshops and courses built on the book, so treat it as one seller's method and test each lever on a small group of real customers instead of assuming it will work for your business.
FAQ
Who came up with the Grand Slam Offer?
Alex Hormozi, in his 2021 book $100M Offers, published by Acquisition.com. It's his own name for the approach, so pages that use it are borrowing his term.
Is a Grand Slam Offer the same as a value proposition?
They're related. A value proposition is the statement of why a customer should buy from you. Hormozi's Grand Slam Offer goes further and changes the package itself (the outcome, guarantees, speed, effort and extras) so it can't be lined up against a competitor's.
Does a Grand Slam Offer mean charging more?
Not necessarily. Hormozi's aim is for buyers to stop comparing on price, which can support a higher price, but the levers work on what the customer gets. Whether a higher price holds is something to test with your own customers.
